Jrue Holiday traded to the Boston Celtics

Boston, Massachusetts (PSF) Earlier this morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the Boston Celtics acquired 2 time all-star and 5 time all-defensive Guard Jrue Holiday.

Boston acquired Holiday, while trading away Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, a 2024 GSW 1st, and a 2029 unprotected BOS first to the Blazers.

Holiday, 33, spent the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, winning a championship with them in 2021. Last year he averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while playing 32.6 minutes per game. He saw his efficiency dip slightly last year, shooting 47.9% from the field and 38.4% from three, still great numbers, albeit a slight decrease from his first two years in Milwaukee.

He struggled during the playoffs this year, scoring an inefficient 17.8 points per game on 40% shooting and 28.6% from three. He especially struggled defensively when guarding Jimmy Butler.

Holiday will slide right in as the starting point guard for the Boston Celtics. A strong facilitator, defender, and locker-room leader, as well as an above-average shooter, Holiday fills the Marcus Smart-sized hole perfectly on the roster. His defensive leadership will undoubtedly improve the Celtics’ perimeter defense and add another scoring option that can take advantage of the extra attention defenses give to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The loss of Robert Williams will sting for Boston, however injury problems and offensive limitation capped Boston’s potential while he was on the floor. They will miss his athleticism, interior defense, and defensive switchability, but the addition of Holiday should raise both the offensive and defensive potential of the roster.

It’s hard to find a better roster fit for Jrue Holiday than the Boston Celtics. They will likely be a popular title pick for this upcoming season.
