New Hard Salary Cap Proposed

NBA.com

Via ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA executives plan to meet with the Players Association to discuss the potential for a hard salary cap. The time for the NBA to renegotiate its collective bargaining agreement with the NBPA is almost upon us. However, this move by the NBA comes with potential drawbacks.

While this may address the issue of teams going well over the soft cap and spending large amounts to hoard veteran superstars, it spells other disasters.

The small market teams in the league have traditionally had more than enough trouble trying to retain star talent, as they couldn’t afford to go deep in the luxury tax to build a super-team.

The biggest problem is the limits this potentially places on players earning potential. Naturally, many players around the league aren’t likely to be happy about this.
