Iowa City, IA (PSF) - NBA Trade deadline week has officially begun, and it hasn’t been disappointing yet.

On Friday, February 3, Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Nets. Two days later, he gets traded to the Dallas Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round pick, and multiple second-round picks. Markief Morris is also being sent to Dallas from Brooklyn as part of the package.

The deal set on Sunday and became official Monday would send an unprotected first-round pick in 2029, two 2027 second-round picks, and a 2029 second-round pick. Dinwiddie will be reuniting with his former team, as he was on the Nets before he was traded to the Washington Wizards by sign-and-trade.

The Mavericks were in dire need of another star player as their record sits just two games above .500 at 28-26, with Luka Doncic averaging 36.5 minutes per game this season carrying the load for the Mavs.

The Nets plan on being aggressive still after making this trade to add pieces around Kevin Durant, preferably a star.

Brooklyn has shown interest in Chicago Bulls star shooting guard Zach Lavine, according to Don Louallen, a journalist for the NBA.

If the Nets don’t make a move that will please Kevin Durant by the trade deadline, then there might be a possibility that Durant will be on another team to begin next season.

The NBA world now has its eyes on Brooklyn’s owner, Joe Tsai, and general manager Sean Marks as they prepare to make another move by the trade deadline on Thursday.
