Knicks Season Coming to a Close Helping My Mental Health

Photo from NBA.com

Honestly, the last week or so of being a New York Knicks fan has not actually been that difficult to do. The team won 4 games in a row before dropping one to Charlotte last night, 125-114. Regardless of what these last 5 games have shown us, we know exactly what this Knicks team has been about all season and it has not changed at all 77 games into the season.

RJ Barrett is absolutely the future of this roster. Obi Toppin is actually a really good player when he gets opportunity. Immanuel Quickley came back around. Julius Randle has to go. Alec Burks is a good player when he is not out of position. Evan Fournier is inconsistently bad. All of these statements have been consistent for months now and it has been infuriating as a fan to have to watch this team do the same thing over and over and over. However, the season is winding down, and thank goodness for this mess being almost over.

While this article has been fairly negative so far, I like to think of myself as a positive person with a smile, so let’s get the rest of the bad out of the way before I throw that smile on.

Thibs continues to not change rotations no matter the circumstances, even though he just had that press conference where he talked about all the film he watched and how he adjusts when necessary (hasn’t adjusted all season). Just last night against Charlotte, Immanuel Quickley checked in and went on an 8-0 run by himself, then got immediately yanked by Thibs. Unexplainable. Cannot happen. Yet, we all know happen it is going to happen again and again.

Julius Randle’s mental state just seems like it is not going to get better unless he isn’t a part of this team anymore. I will always give him the credit for being the guy that turned this team around last season. However, this season he was definitely a negative and it has taken a toll on both him and this team.

Let’s get positive. RJ Barrett has been absolutely awesome since the New Year. Recently, Immanuel Quickley has been back, and not just the shooting. His playmaking has been great and the defense has been great as well, especially on the perimeter.

Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride are playing well enough to the point where they basically have forced their way into the lineup when healthy. On top of that, Sims has looked great since getting more chances.

With 5 games left, there are many things to look back fondly of this season even if it did not go the way most planned.

Go New York Go New York Go.
