Knicks reportedly shopping Cam Reddish after loss to Bucks

Following their 107-111 loss against the Milwaukee Bucks, rumors of trade talks began to emerge the next morning about Knicks small forward Cam Reddish.

According to a tweet from Michael Scotto, the Knicks are seeking two second-round picks for Reddish. This move by the Knicks, which came out of nowhere, isn’t surprising as Reddish’s time on the court has been limited, and not because of injuries.

Since March 12, 2022, Reddish’s trade from the Atlanta Hawks to the Knicks was viewed as being impactful addition, but it’s been the opposite. Reddish has not been on the court much because of simply not enough minutes to go around, and with the extension of RJ Barrett to a four-year rookie extension, that would solidify as the Knicks’ future and starting small forward.

Reddish and Barrett come from the same draft class, so seeing Reddish struggle for minutes is disheartening. Head coach Tom Thibodeau doesn’t typically play younger players that many minutes, but he has been playing the younger players off the bench this season. However, even with Thibodeau’s culture change, Reddish had barely seen the floor.

His lack of play has been such a problem that the Knicks are reportedly shopping for Reddish and asking for two second-rounders, not even a year after trading for him.

The asking price for Reddish seems to favor any team that would show any interest because he is only 23 and a former first-round pick. Teams that may show interest, like the Lakers and the Celtics, would be a good destination and an overall upgrade to Reddish’s situation, as he is entirely out of the rotation for the Knicks.

The Knicks sit at the sixth seed with a 22-19 record and, compared to last year, are already overachieving and on a path to making the playoffs this year. With Reddish being healthy and on the shelf, a likely trade looks like both parties would benefit.
