Jrue Holiday Wants to Sign a Contract Extension with Celtics
After joining the Boston Celtics, it seems that guard Jrue Holiday would like to stay in Boston for a longer time than his current contract. Holiday confirmed that the Celtics already told him they would like to discuss a long-term contract extension, and it looks like the feeling is mutual.
"[Brad Stevens, Celtics GM] communicated that with me from the beginning," Holiday said. "Something that's huge for me is communication. Being open and honest and upfront. He's done that for me from the beginning, so I definitely appreciate that."
With the Celtics playing good basketball and sitting in first place in the league, Holiday is a big reason why. It seems as though this Celtics team has great chemistry that is only continuing to get better, Jrue stated, “I’d like to be here. I feel like I’m getting more and more comfortable, loving the guys, loving the organization and loving the city.”
Holiday has a player-option on his contract for next season, which he could choose to exercise if he wants. But, his preference is to return to the Celtics for more than one season, according to MassLive’s Brian Robb. Holiday told MassLive that he hopes to reach a deal with the Celtics on an extension before the season is over. There have been talks that Holiday would even be willing to take less money than he is currently under contract for just to be able to play for the Celtics longer, knowing that his best chance to win the Finals is most likely in Boston. The Celtics have one of the best core starters in the league which is a comforting and secure feeling for the players.
Jrue said, “I think everybody kind of knows we’re set and we’re set for a long period,” Holiday said. “No matter what happens, you are going to come back here with the same guys for the most part. Things happen but I think you lock into that, being able to have that comfortability and just kind of that pressure off of you about what’s next.”
Each of the Celtics starters have made their goal clear, to win as many championships together as possible while they spend their time here in Boston. Keeping a huge piece in Jrue, will only help Boston reach their goal.
