Jaden Springer, Possible Bench Piece?

It has not been an easy Summer for Philadelphia 76ers fans. With the drama surrounding the team, James Harden asking to be traded, and Nick Nurse becoming the third coach in the last five years for the team, a lot of fans are wondering what the team will look like next season and beyond. However, there was a momentary bright spot during five games of the Summer League.

Jaden Springer, the former first-round of the 76ers out of Tennessee, has made a strong case to be on the 76er’s roster next season in a backup role. The third-year guard averaged 27.3 points in the G League playoffs and was named playoff MVP en route to the Blue Coats winning the championship.

β€œJaden’s a really fun player to play with,” said Mac McLung in an interview with Justin Grasso. β€œSuper strong, great defender, can score and he’s a funny guy that you love to be around.”

Springer averaged 19 points per game last season for the 76ers G League team, the Delaware Blue Coats. His outside shooting needs some work at only 31.9 percent from three. He shot just 24.1 percent from three the year before, so he has been improving. His shooting from the field overall has been good at 49.3 percent last season.

Springer may not be a starter next season for the 76ers and most likely not the first or second guard off the bench, but if the Sixers have to call someone up from the G League and it is Springer he should make a strong case to prove himself.
