Is It Time For Trading Porzingis?
The Dallas Mavericks are in a really weird spot right now. For the last 2 seasons the Dallas Mavericks have been making the playoffs and having relatively successful regular seasons, but when we look at their playoff performances they have had two straight first round exits both lost to the Los Angeles Clippers. While there were drastic changes done to the coaching staff, there hasnโt been any big changes done to the line-up. The Mavericks have been trading their role players in and out every year while they try to keep rebuilding around Luka and Porzingis. Luka Doncic has proven to be a superstar and got his max-extension at the end of last season but Kristaps Porzingis has been disappointing for the last two seasons. While he had multiple good games, he has had problems with staying consistent and most importantly staying healthy. Porzingis has missed over 60 games over the last two and a half seasons and currently he is out again. Heโs been having serious problems with his ankle and knee injuries and it doesnโt look like these problems are about to be solved anytime soon.He is still young (26) so he could still be an important player in the trade portal especially at this point of time. When there are teams like Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, the Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans who are in the same spot as the Mavericks and are trying to rebuild their team. Another problem that the Mavericks have is the center problem. While Porzingis is a big that can shoot he is more of a liability on the defence. When you already donโt have that many good defenders on their squad you need a big that can defend the rim while giving a stable contribution on offense. You have Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson, who is averaging career high points and showing good leadership when Luka was out with Covid, who are a solid duo on your front court. Right now the most logical trade for the Mavericks would probably be trading with the Indiana Pacers. A Porzingis-Myles Turner trade would benefit both teams. The Mavericks already have their attack first front court and getting a dominant big like Myles Turner in defense is highly needed for them. And Myles Turner is a positive at offence too, this year heโs been averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds and nearly 3 blocks a game in 30 minutes with highly efficient shooting. Additionally, the Mavericks could get one or two good role players to come off their bench too or some draft picks in the worse case.
