Is Collin Sexton the answer now for Phoenix?
With getting Kevin Durant looking difficult without gutting the team, the Suns can begin looking into other trade packages that can improve the team before the tip of the 2022-23 season.
One that stands out to me is acquiring Collin Sexton from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although the Cavs just offered Sexton a three-year, $40 million contract, it took them a month to offer him and have been publicly open to shopping him. One potential trade offer has been the Cavs shipping Sexton to Dallas for Reggie Bullock, Dwight Powell, and a first-round pick. If that is the trade value for Sexton, Phoenix can offer a package of Cam Payne, Jae Crowder, Dario Saric, and a second-round pick that I believe is enough to get it done for Cleveland.
For Cleveland, they want to win right now with the team that they have. The trade would allow them to have a good point guard off the bench to backup Darius Garland for cheap and a proven winner with experience in Crowder. Saric missed the entire 2021-22 season but provides a solid skill set and spaces the floor.
The trade would allow Phoenix to have a legitimate scorer and spark plug off the bench, which the team lacked last season. The last time Sexton played a full season, he averaged 24 points a game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from three. A playoff rotation of CP3, Book, Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Deandre Ayton, Sexton, Bismack Biyombo, and Landry Shamet has championship potential.
