HOW THE BRADLEY BEAL TRADE WILL AFFECT BOTH TEAMS INVOLVED

A trade had been proposed between the Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards where Guards Bradley Beal and Jordan Goodwin and Forward Isaiah Todd were to be traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Sun’s Guards Chris Paul and Landry Shamet along with multiple future draft picks swaps. This is a colossal trade that will drastically affect both teams. Here is a rundown of what may result from this trade.

Suns

Beal is a shifty guard who can use his quickness and ball handling to slash the rim easily and has a smooth midrange game that finishes well through contact. Beal also uses the step-back to effectively create his scoring opportunities from behind the arc. Placing Beal in the Shooting Guard position will bump Devin Booker to the point guard position, completely altering the team’s chemistry. However, Beal may be a great complement to Booker because both have a very similar play style, as they both excel in the midrange game but are also solid three-point shooters. The only problem they may have is sharing the ball because both players are primary scorers on their respective teams. Additionally, besides both Booker and Beal, Kevin Durant has made an immediate impact as a lights-out scorer that has built up much momentum and brought new energy to the Suns, and it will depend on him whether the Suns are to make deeper playoff runs or not. This is an OK trade, but the impact won’t take effect immediately after the first year.

Wizards

Chris Paul has already entered the twilight stages of his career as he is already 38 years old. However, Paul is a career floor general who has immediately impacted every team he has played for. The Wizards will be no different, as Paul can take on a more serious leadership role in an inconsistent Wizards franchise. Paul will also pair up well with the Wizards Center Kristaps Porzingis, creating a serious lop threat between the two players and adding extra scoring opportunities for the team. Porzingis is already a smooth shooter and good at creating scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates in the interior, so Paul and Porzingis will work extremely well together. Additionally, the scoring options for Paul won’t change after joining the Wizards. Landry Shamet and Corey Kispert can spread the floor and provide the same necessity in perimeter shooting that Paul will need to succeed with the Wizards. Overall, the Wizards are gaining a big score in this trade by getting two efficient scoring guards and a wealth of future draft picks to build their team up for the future.

Overall, this Trade meets the expectations that both teams were looking for, but the Wizards got the better end of this trade although the Suns did find someone who can be dependable in the backcourt.
