Have Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown been the most effective duo of the entire 2021-22 regular season and playoffs? This regular season and playoffs have brought on many entertaining player duos to watch and debate upon which are better. The Boston Celtics finished the season with a 51-31 regular season record, landing them in the second seed and having the best defense in the league.

Given that the Celtics have had great regular season and playoff success, it only seems fair to debate where the electrifying pairing of Tatum and Brown stand amongst the league's best duo’s. The Boston Celtics are now in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. Obviously, credit is due to the entire Celtics team and organization for getting this far, but the biggest reason for this Finals appearance is the play of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

In the regular season, Tatum and Brown combined for a total of 50.5PPG on a combined 46% FG. Jayson Tatum averaged 26.9 ppg while Jaylen Brown averaged 23.6PPG. Both put up impressive scoring numbers that gave the Boston Celtics the seventh best offensive rating in the league with a 114.4 ORTG.

In the playoffs, Tatum and Brown have stayed consistent if not better in the playoffs. The two combined for 46.55 % FG and 38.05% 3pt FG while averaging 49.9PPG going into the NBA Finals. Tatum is the highest remaining scorer in the playoffs at 27 PPG and leading the playoffs in total points. Jaylen Brown is averaging 22.9PPG in the playoffs and has the fifth most total points in the playoffs. These young stars can definitely put up numbers that result in wins.

There is no question about Tatum and Brown’s offensive capabilities, but they also play some of the best defense in the league. The Boston Celtics finished with the number one ranked defense in the league this season and had the best defensive rating at 106.9 DRTG. Yes, the Celtics did have two All-Defensive team players and a DPOY in Marcus Smart, but Tatum and Brown’s DRTG speaks for themselves. Tatum finished with a 106.3 DRTG and Brown finished with a 107.5 DRTG which is very close to Marcus Smart's 107.1 DRTG. Tatum and Brown play some of the best defense on the best defensive team in the league.

If the Boston Celtics win the 2021-22 NBA Championship, it would be very hard to argue that they are not the best current duo in the NBA. This past season has been very exciting to watch and many players have proven themselves and that seems to be what these young Boston Celtic stars seem to be doing. Do you agree that they are the best duo in the league?
