Grading each NBA Team’s Trade Deadline in the Southeast division

Atlanta Hawks- C

Currently, at 24-29, the Atlanta Hawks made zero moves at the trade deadline. The big names like Dejounte Murray and Clint Capela were nowhere in the trade market. The best part was that the Hawks didn’t sell low on Murray and didn’t lose much value on him.

Washington Wizards- D

Wizards receive:

Richaun Holmes

2024 First Round Pick (via Mavs via Thunder)

Mavs receive:

Daniel Gafford

This was an awful trade for the Washington Wizards. They receive a pick, which will most likely be a late first-round pick. The 2024 draft class isn’t really impressive, either. On the other hand, Gafford is a really good center and will be under contract for future years, so this trade just doesn’t make much sense.

Charlotte Hornets- B+

Hornets receive:

Grant Williams

Seth Curry

2027 First Round Pick

Mavericks receive:

P.J Washington

2024 Second Round Pick

2028 Second Round Pick

This is a great trade for the Hornets because they receive Grants Williams, who is relatively cheaper than Washington, and the Hornets receive a 20277 first-round pick. Nobody knows how good the Mavericks will be in 2027, so this is a great pick to receive.

Hornets receive:

Vasilije Micic

Tre Mann

Davis Bertans

2024 Second Round Pick (via Houston)

2025 Second Round Pick (via Philadelphia)

Cash Consideration

Thunder receive:

Gordon Hayward

Gordon Hayward was supposed to leave Charlotte if he remained a Hornet. The Hornets got the right amount for an expiring contract. Micic is a good piece for a future trade package, and Mann is still a young player who can heavily tribute for the Hornets.

Miami Heat- C+

Other than the Terry Rozier trade that happened a few weeks ago, the Miami Heat were not active at the trade deadline. The team needed a better backup Center, but Pat Riley decided not to go after one. The team is good enough to make a deep playoff push if the Heat stay healthy.

Orlando Magic- C-

Players like Jonathan Issac and Markelle Fultz were expected to be moved at the deadline, but that did not happen. The Magic have such a deep roster of young talent that would be just right to trade some players for future assets. It is understandable why they didn’t make moves; they are overachieving and are just playing with house money at the moment.
