Golden State Warriors provide injury update prior to training camp
The Warriors provided injury updates for both guard Klay Thompson and center James Wiseman yesterday afternoon. The pair are reportedly making good rehabilitation progress but will miss out on a full training camp. The expectation is they will be able to return sometime in the 21/22 season.
Klay Thompson, who has missed the last two NBA seasons due to an ACL tear and achilles tear, is steadily recovering after surgery on Nov. 25th, 2020. He is on track to return during the 21/22 season and the exact date of return will be determined by his continued progress. Since Klay is still unable to fully participate in training camp he’ll take part in various controlled individual workouts hoping to ease his way back into playing shape. The Warriors will be especially cautious with Klay when determining his return to full contact practice.
For the second year in a row Warriors’ center James Wiseman will miss out on a full training camp. Wiseman’s rehabilitation for his torn right meniscus has made good progress but he will not be ready for the season opener on Oct. 19th against the Lakers. During training camp Wiseman will participate in individual shooting along with other individual on-court training. Wiseman was expected to begin full jumping six months after surgery, which is Oct. 15th, and he is still on track to do so. Therefore, his return to full practice will be determined after that date. With the absence of Wiseman the Warriors will start the season undersized at the center position. Kevon Looney will be the starting center and will likely rotate with Nemanja Bjielica and Draymond Green.
It is best that the Warriors take a careful approach with all the injuries they’ve experienced the past few years. The Warriors will stay patient and hope the two players make continued progress so they can return early next season. Dub Nation looks forward to seeing both of them healthy and a full strength Warriors squad once again.
