Hornets Forward Harrell Detained
Charlotte Hornets forward, Montrezl Harrell was arrested on May 12 in Madison County, Kentucky after his rented 2020 Honda Pilot was reported as following another vehicle too closely. State trooper Jesse Owens reported that Harrell’s vehicle had an “odor of marijuana” which led to the confession of the Hornets big man. Owens also wrote that Harrell also “produced a small amount from his sweatpants.”
After conducting a routine search of the vehicle, authorities recovered three vacuum sealed bags of marijuana each weighing approximately one pound in the back seat of Harrell’s rental car. Montrezl Harrell, 28, was charged with possession of marijuanawith the intent to sell.
According to Kentucky law, possession of eight ounces but less than five pounds of marijuana is a Class D felony for first time offenders in the state. Harrell has the potential to face a punishment of one to five years of incarceration with the addition of $1,000-$10,000 fine. Harrell is scheduled to continue court proceedings July 13th.
Harrell played college at the University of Louisville, in Kentucky. The 2020 NBA sixth man of the year seven-year NBA veteran whose played for the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets. The Hornets acquired Harrell from the Washington Wizards in a trade-deadline deal in February. He will become a free agent this summer and the Hornets have not released a statement on Harrell’s detainment.
