Dunk of the Year Candidates. Anthony Edwards, Jalen Green, or Malik Monk?
The NBA has been lucky enough to see some of the best dunks and posterizers in recent history this year. As of today, who’s going home with the Dunk of the Year honors?
#3: Malik Monk posters Kris Dunn
One of the most underappreciated and underrated dunkers in the NBA, Sacramento King’s guard Malik Monk has had a lot of highlight dunks this year. The sixth man of the year candidate best came against the Utah Jazz on October 26th, 2023 when he posted Jazz guard Kris Dunn. What makes this dunk so special is first of all how far Monk reaches back, but also the disrespect after the dunk when he yells in Dunn’s face. Can you blame Dunn?
#2: Jalen Green posters Anferne Simons
Similar to Monk’s dunk, Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green snatched this ball way back to posterize Portland Trail-Blazers guard Anferne Simons. Green has always been known for his ridiculously high vertical jump and has been showing it all season, but none better than this dunk. Again, it’s hard to blame a guy like that for getting in Green’s way to try to stop the fastbreak dunk but wow, Green didn’t hold back whatsoever.
#1: Anthony Edwards posters John Collins
Oh boy. This is one of those rare dunks where you physically jump when you see it happen in live-action. Absolute disrespect and pure athletic ability from Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards. With his head above the rim, Edwards in transition decided that he had enough room to elevate and did he ever. To add insult to injury, both Edwards and Utah Jazz forward John Collins ended up with minor injuries after the dunk. Collins was taken out of the game to be evaluated for a concussion after Edwards had sort of hit Collins in the face with his off-hand. Because of this, Edwards ended up dislocating his finger and re-locating it right after the dunk. Edwards has been known to play through minor injuries so this was no surprise to Timberwolves’ fans.
