Do The Kings Have A Shot At Sitting on The Throne Next Season?

The Sacramento Kings had a skillful season this year as they stood third in the Western Conference. Last year the Kings ran for 24-41 in their season and were 12th in the West standings. This season, however, Sacramento went 48-34 and secured a spot in the playoffs. Leading scorers such as De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis increased their average points per game (ppg). In the previous season, Fox averaged 23.2 ppg, while Sabonis only averaged 18.9 ppg. Contrary to those averages, Fox went for 25 ppg and Sabonis averaged 19.1 ppg for the 2022-2023 season. Their slight individual and team efforts allowed Sacramento to make a playoff appearance for the first time since 2006. De’Aaron increased his average ppg in the postseason, but some of Sabonis and even Harrison Barnes's efforts decreased throughout the postseason.

Even though the Kings did not advance past the first round, it is still a huge milestone for the team and franchise as a whole. Sacramento went from 12th to third in the West, made their first playoff appearance in 17 years, and pushed the seasoned Golden State Warriors to a game-seven series. So, if the Kings were to increase their efforts and averages, Sacramento may have a chance of moving through next year’s playoff bracket.
