Do the Chicago Bulls blow the team up in the offseason?
Chicago, Illinois (PSF) - The Chicago Bulls were a win away from a first-round bid in the playoffs but lost to the Miami Heat who made it to the NBA Finals.
The Bulls finished this season with a 40-42 record, were 10th in the Eastern Conference, and made the play-in tournament where they faced the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat. The Bulls have a lot of things to evaluate within the roster with Lonzo Ball and his durability and contract. Do they bring back Nikola Vucevic on a deal? Do they see what value Alex Caruso has? Or do they see possible trade assets they can get for DeMar DeRozan or Zach Lavine?
I believe the Bulls are missing a promising guard to take the next steps for their team. The late addition of Patrick Beverley in the buyout market isn’t the ideal point guard the team needs, which shows how much they do miss Ball on the floor. Do the Bulls trade Ball for draft compensation? Or do they trade Ball for another guard who can be ready to go at the start of next season? The top point guards in free agency this offseason are loaded with talent, including James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Fred VanVleet, D’Angelo Russell, and Russell Westbrook to name a few who the Bulls can see about pursuing or sign and trade options.
The Bulls are currently looking for trade suitors for Lavine. In my opinion, I would target either VanVleet, Westbrook, or Russell in a sign-and-trade situation to get a point guard for the future and resign Nikola not to a big contract and get more depth for the bench. We’ll see what the Bulls do this offseason.
