On Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets by 50 points to become just the third team in league history to have multiple 50-point wins in a single season. This victory also happened to be Joe Mazzulla’s 100th win as a head coach, which he accomplished in under two seasons. The Celtics also beat the Indiana Pacers by 51 points earlier this season, and this 50 point win over the Nets puts them in a club that only the 1992-93 Sacramento Kings and 1978-79 Milwaukee Bucks have been able to join, as the only three teams in NBA history to have multiple wins by at least 50 points in a season. The Celtics being the first team to do so in 30 years. As for the Celtics, this win was the fifth 50-point win in franchise history. No team has ever won three games by 50 or more points in a season, and based on this Celtics team play, it’s quite possible they could become the first.

The recent historic win was the Celtics last game heading into the All-Star break, as well as their sixth straight win. Coach Mazzulla addressed the possibility of the team cooling off during the break and taking their foot off of the gas pedal, “You can't operate by feeling, so regardless if we lost tonight and won five out of six or six out of six, you have a tendency to relax, you have a tendency to put it in cruise control," Mazzulla said. "So winning is just as dangerous as losing if you don't handle it the right way." Boston is entering the break as the top team in the league with a record of 43-12, with a six-game lead over the second-place Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference standings. It's been a great 2023-24 season for the Celtics so far, but this team ultimately will be judged on its playoff success. Winning Banner 18 is all that matters.
