Can the Mavericks win with their style of play?

A big question for people paying attention to the Dallas Mavericks is if they can keep this current trajectory. Everyone’s thinking the same thing, we’ve seen this one-man iso ball setup before with James Harden and the Houston Rockets, and it didn’t work then.

The current playstyle of the team seems like it won’t hold up in playoffs if history has anything to tell us. I think this assumption is wrong for us to make, though.

While I admit that teams recognize that the offense revolves around Luka Doncic, and it is easy to crowd him and limit his options, people seem to forget about his teammates. His three main supporting cast members, Spencer Dinwiddie, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Christian Wood, can all put in about around 15-20 points any given night when their team needs it.

You could argue the Mavericks may need another star player alongside Doncic. If only the Mavericks could acquire someone to give you consistent 20-plus points or make a difference for the team on the defensive end since they rank 23rd in the league.

While it’s obvious the ideal situation for the Mavericks would be to acquire a second star player, with the roster now, they should be seen as a threat to any team they go up against, especially early in the Western Conference playoffs.
