Boston’s Playoff Run Continues
On June 2, the Boston Celtics traveled to San Fransisco to play the Golden State Warriors in their first NBA Finals game since 2010. Unlike Boston, the Warriors have appeared in the NBA finals six times in the last eight seasons. Many will argue these Golden State Warriors are more of a dynasty than Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls.
Many Boston die hards have been waiting for this moment for 12 long years. Shortly before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games during the 2010 finals, Boston defeated the Lakers in six in 2008. That historic Boston Celtics team consisted of the “original big 3” including Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett. These are the players many of us, including myself, grew up watching and are ecstatic to see Boston finally back where they belong.
Going into the game, Golden State has won nine of their last nine home games throughout the 2022 playoffs. Boston comes into game one as a slight underdog with the Warriors being favored three-and-a-half points.
Boston’s defense struggled early giving up six first quarter three-pointers to Steph Curry alone. Although they got off to a poor start, the scrappy and resilient Boston Celtics fought their way back. The Celtics took control of the fourth quarter starting on a 20-0 run stunning the Warriors. This helped Boston steal game one on the road with a final of 120-108.
The Celtics were led by NBA veteran Al Hortford. After 15 years in the NBA, last night was Hortford’s first Championship appearance. In fact, June 3 is his 36th birthday. During game one he looked more like a 25-year-old on the court having 26 points while sinking six three-pointers.
Game two of the NBA finals is back in San Francisco on June 5 at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time. Boston is chasing their 18th championship banner which would tie them most of all time with the Los Angeles Lakers.
