The Boston Celtics have hired Sam Cassell as a new assistant coach.

Cassell previously coached for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Philadelphia 76ers. Cassell’s coaching provides experience, leadership, and mentorship for the players and the coaches as well.

The Celtics had lost quite a few of their assistant coaches since the season had ended, for example, Damon Stoudamire who left during the season to become a head coach for the Georgia Tech men’s basketball team.

Cassell mentioned in an interview (CLNS Media Boston Sports Network) “We have to have the same common goal, to bring banner number 18, that’s the only goal… it’s all about winning a championship, that’s the tradition in Boston.” Cassell had won a championship in Boston in the 2008 season when the Celtics had defeated the Lakers 4-2.
