Why Are WNBA Players Getting Paid Less Than NBA Players?
After many many years a few WNBA players have finally decided to speak up about their pay. Liz Cambage, WNBA player for the Las Vegas Aces, spoke on how her head coach, Becky Hammon, is making 4 times her salary. Hammon has earned $1 million with the Aces after leaving her past job as a coaching assistant with the San Antonio Spurs, making her the highest paid person in the WNBA league. Cambage was not pleased with this information as she tweeted βahhh yes the @WNBA, where a head coach can get paid 4X the highest paid players super max contract. lmao and yβall think imma spend another season upgrading my seat on a flight to get to games out of my own pocket.β Cambageβs salary with the Aces is a little over $221K.
Angel McCoughtry, WNBA player who just signed with the Minnesota Lynx, has also decided to speak up on the pay that they are receiving. McCoughtry decided to break her silence on having to play overseas just to make more money. We donβt hear the NBA players going overseas so why do we hear the WNBA players. In a video with TMZ SPORTS, McCoughtry stated saying βHereβs some advice, pay us like you pay the men. I donβt want to get paid more overseas. I want to get paid in my country.β Why do WNBA players get paid less than NBA players? How can we change this for the better?
