When Life Gives You Lemons, Throw Them?

WASHINGTON D.C. (PSF) — The opening week of the XFL provided us with insight into what makes this league special. The capper of the week came from D.C. when the Defenders took on the Sea Dragons at Audi Field. The Beer Snake had been a tradition since the rebirth of the XFL in 2020. When the fans attempted to re-incapsulate that spirit, stadium security was not having it. After up to 20 attempts at crafting a snake, lemons started raining down onto the field. Having been at the game, only a section over from the source of the lemons, it was a sight to behold.

You see, lemons were a part of the specialty drinks that Audi Field was offering that night and fans took initiative to show their disapproval. So many lemons hit the turf that it even caught the attention of the broadcast booth mentioning it during the game. One lemon was hurled at a Sea Dragons player, hitting him in the helmet and falling harmlessly to the ground. I do not think lemons will be included in the drink service at Audi Field anytime soon and the rabid fans certainly gave the Defenders an advantage as they won 22-18. Lemons have become the calling card of the D.C. Defenders and we will have to wait until March 5th, the Defenders’ next home game against the Saint Louis BattleHawks to see if security takes a different stance on the Beer Snake we love so near and dear.
