The Triple Threader - Mar. 11, 2024
Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering the three stories from the world of professional wrestling.
Keep his dad’s Name Out Your Mouth
On this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin’” Rollins came down to accept the challenge for a tag team match against The Rock and Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns at night one of WrestleMania 40. If the American Nightmare and Visionary win the bout, the Bloodline is banned from ringside during Rhodes’ match versus Reigns for the WWE crown the following night. If the Great One and Tribal Chief win, it will be anything goes in Bloodline Rules for said title match. The confrontation was heated and reached a climax when Cody Rhodes slapped The Rock as SmackDown went off the air, a physical response from their first encounter in Las Vegas.
Sacrifice Results
Brand new champions were crowned and statements made at TNA Wrestling’s Sacrifice. Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers became the new TNA World Tag Team Champions by defeating Ace Austin and Chris Bey, and the team of Jody Threat and Dani Luna upset MK Ultra (the tandem of Masha Slamovich and Killer Kelly) to win the Knockouts Tag Team crowns. Alex Hammerstone returned to the company as a full-time member and went on to put away Josh Alexander, and Nic Nemeth, fresh off capturing the IWGP Global Championship, turned away Steve Maclin in the event’s opening contest. Sacrifice’s main event was Moose vs. Eric Young for the TNA World Title. After several interferences and an assist from Frankie Kazarian, Moose would put away the TNA original to retain the championship.
Goats Only
The first match for AEW Dynasty has been confirmed, as this past Saturday’s Collision saw Bryan Danielson and Will Ospreay shake hands for a match that was once only in wrestling fans’ dreams and video games. The American Dragon and Aerial Assassin go one-on-one at the pay-per-view on April 21 in St. Louis, Missouri. This will be the former IWGP US Champion’s second pay-per-view match coming off a thrilling bout against Konosuke Takeshita at Revolution.
