The Triple Threader - Jun. 24, 2024
Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering three select stories from the world of professional wrestling.
The Fireflies still burn
Last Monday’s Raw kicked off with the return of Seth “Freakin’” Rollins as he declared that he would challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship currently held by Damian Priest. Rollins is the first man to have held the current lineage of said title since it was reintroduced last year, having lost to Drew McIntyre, who would then lose the crown to Priest after the Judgment Day member cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 40. For this year’s MITB event, Iyo Sky and Jey Uso qualified for their respective women’s and men’s ladder matches that will take place in Toronto on Saturday, July 6. At the end of that night, in that familar dark and supernatural aura that the late, great Bray Wyatt captured, Uncle Howdy – Bray’s real life brother formerly known as Bo Dallas – and his new family debuted and wrecked almost everyone backstage on the red brand. The group – which includes Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, Erick Rowan, and Joe Gacy – is said to be called The Wyatt 6, or The Wyatt Sicks according to social media. While the name WWE will actually use is up for debate, the impression they gave for the audience is undeniable as Uncle Howdy declares, “we’re here.”
Rolling in the deep
In this appropriately named section of the article, The Bloodline proved it does indeed make like the hit song from Adele, as Jacob Fatu made his long anticipated WWE SmackDown debut to help Solo Sikoa and the rest of The Bloodline. This past Friday also saw Chicago’s own CM Punk address the crowd, then get beaten down by Drew McIntyre – who initially quit WWE on Raw – following Punk costing The Scottish Warrior’s latest World Title attempt at Clash at the Castle.
