The Triple Threader - Jun. 12, 2023

Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering the three stories from the world of professional wrestling.

Uso Confused

This past Friday on SmackDown depicted a whirlwind of emotions for Jey Uso. With his standing with Roman Reigns and the Bloodline in question, the former tag team champion was informed by Paul Heyman about a shot for the United States Championship against Austin Theory. Later that night, a slew of distractions occurred, from NXT tag team standouts Pretty Deadly to Solo Sikoa, which eventually led to brother Jimmy Uso inadvertently superkicking his twin, when he meant it for Solo. It left Theory to pick up the win, and Jey with more familiar confusion than ever.

Golden Guns

The Motor City Machine Guns have struck gold again. Only this time, it’s individually. At Impact Wrestling’s Against All Odds, Chris Sabin has become a 9-time X-Division Champion by virtue of his victory over Trey Miguel. In the main event of the same show, Alex Shelley challenged for the Impact World Championship against Steve Maclin. It was a thrilling match between a 20-year veteran and a champion who won the belt within two years on being with the company. In the end, Alex Shelley made his own history as he won the Impact World Title for the first time in his career. The Guns, who have won multiple tag team titles together, celebrated their respective victories to close out the show.

Respect THE LEGEND FOREVER

A WWE legend, and one of the most prolific heels in the business, has passed away. The Iron Sheik, born Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, got his start with wrestling in the Iranian military where he served. He would make the transition to professional wrestling in the World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE), and began the period of being one of the most hated villains of all time, not afraid to insert politics and stereotypes into his character. During his run, he would go on to win the WWE Championship by defeating Bob Backlund in 1983. After his time in wrestling dwindled, he become a social media and cultural sensation, known for his capital lettered profanity-infused tweets (which were written by his managers), and broken English rants during interviews while he was in character, most notably with Howard Stern, when he cursed out Hulk Hogan. The Iron Sheik was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. He was 82 years old.

Pro Sports Fanatics would like to send their condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
