Show me the Money!

WWE’s 2023 Money in the Bank event was one for the record books. The show kicked off with the men’s MITB ladder match, where the first person to grab the briefcase would be the winner of a contract that guarantees a championship match – anywhere and anytime – for up to a year. This match saw Damien Priest triumph over Ricochet, Shinsuke Nakamura, Santos Escobar, Butch, Logan Paul, and fan favorite LA Knight. The women’s outing consisted of Zoey Stark, Trish Stratus, Zelina Vega, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and IYO SKY; the latter of whom would lock up Lynch and Bayley between the ladder, and with them, her right to be called Miss Money in the Bank.

C You in your Dreams

Former WWE Champions made returns that no one forecasted. First John Cena made a return to address the London fans and make a case for WrestleMania to be in the city for the first in its near 40-year history. The speech was then interrupted by the “Arrogant Aussie” Grayson Waller, who proposed the Grandest Stage of Them All to be set in his aforementioned home country. Both the former NXT standout and his request got slammed down with an Attitude Adjustment by the 16-time world champion. Then it was Drew McIntyre – who was rumored to leave the company earlier this year – to make his unexpected grand entrance after Intercontinental Champion Gunther defended his title. The two came to blows with McIntyre ending the brawl with a Claymore, holding Gunther’s title thereafter.

The Ones to Beat

Betrayal, disrespect, hostility, and boiling blood were the themes of this “Bloodline Civil War,” and it came to a head at Money in the Bank. The Usos squared off against their own DNA in brother Solo Sikoa, and cousin Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. For a manifold of times during this match, it looked to be the night of the Enforcer and Tribal Chief, at one point with brothers Jimmy and Jey getting stacked and in a pinning combination. Stunningly, they kicked out of that attempt by the slimmest of margins. The match would finally see Roman getting superkicked by the former Tag Team Champions and Jey make a textbook frog splash on the Head of the Table, pinning the champ for a succesful 3. This not made the Usos victorious over their own family, but it ended Roman’s streak of never being pinned after 1,294 days.
