Golden Skies

TNA Wrestling celebrated their 22nd year with their annual Slammiversary event. In front of a sold-out crowd in the golden hockey town of Montreal, new champions were crowned without the need for hockey sticks. Ace Austin & Chris Bey defeated Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers for the TNA World Tag Team Title. “Speedball” Mike Bailey put away Mustafa Ali for the X-Division crown, and gave some redemption for Earl Hebner – the same referee from the Montreal Screwjob at WWE Survivor Series 1997 who officiated the X-Division match – in the process. In the 6-man main event for the TNA World Championship, it was Nic Nemeth who came out on top with the win and the gold, achieving his first major world title since 2013, and his 3rd this year. Nemeth has already won the IWGP Global Championship and recently won the AAA Mega Championship since his release from WWE last year.

“You Can Thank Me Later!”

New champions weren’t restricted to one promotion this past week. On last Wednesday’s Dynamite, Maxwell Jacob Friedman captured the AEW International Championship from Will Ospreay in a classic that lasted 59 minutes and 58 seconds, stunning the crowd as well as the former champion Ospreay. This past Saturday on Collision, Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, and Killswitch defeated the Bang Bang Gang of Juice Robinson, Austin and Colten Gunn, to become the new AEW World Trios Champions.

Why Can’t We Be Friends?

Drew McIntyre appeared on this past Monday’s Raw to attempt to get his suspension lifted following his actions after Money in the Bank went off the air. He was asked by general manager Adam Pearce to apologize to the referees that were involved. The former WWE Champion disagreed and anger took over before Seth Rollins intervened and sent McIntyre out of the ring. This week, CM Punk – the man who cost McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship 3 times, including at the aforementioned PLE – is set to return to the red brand tonight.
