Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering the three biggest stories in the world of pro wrestling.
Boss Time’s Up in WWE?
Mercedes Varnado, also known as Sasha Banks in WWE, is scheduled to attend New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Tokyo on January 4th. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, she is reportedly “done” with her time in WWE, due to an ongoing money situation between the two parties. Banks has been absent on WWE television since walking out in May.
Final Battle Fallout
At Ring of Honor’s Final Battle, a string of new champions were crowned as The Briscoes defeated FTR for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, Athena became the new ROH Women’s World Championship, and Claudio Castagnoli put away 8-time champion Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship. The only man to retain his title was Television Champion & TNT Champion Samoa Joe.
History Made at Deadline
The Iron Survivor challenge was the highlight of the night at NXT Deadline as Roxanne Perez and Grayson Waller won their respective matches and now have their sights set on NXT’s major championships. Elsewhere in the event, the NXT Tag Team Titles were decided as New Day defeated Pretty Deadly. This marked Kofi Kingston’s 15th tag team title, breaking the record of Booker T’s 14 reigns between WCW and WWE, and made the faction WWE’s Triple Crown Tag Team Champions.
