The Triple Threader - Apr. 29, 2024
Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering three select stories from the world of professional wrestling.
Who Drew the Draft up, Man?
Day 1 of the 2024 WWE Draft began this past Friday on SmackDown, an event that not only saw the majority of household names remaining on their shows – such as Seth Rollins and Jey Uso on Raw, and Bianca Belair and LA Knight on SmackDown – two call-ups from NXT were announced, as Kiana James was sent to the red brand, and Carmelo Hayes to Friday nights. The former NXT Champion, who last wrestled Trick Williams (who went to become the current holder of that title), wrestled WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the main event later that night. The second night of the draft will take place on tonight’s Monday Night Raw.
Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre has signed a new deal with WWE, The Rock announced on social media Sunday, confirming that the former World Heavyweight Champion will continue his feud with CM Punk, who cost him said championship at WrestleMania 40.
Following Rhea Ripley relinquishing the Women’s World Title, a battle royal was held last week on Raw, where Becky Lynch would win her 4th crown.
The Boss Gets Dropped
Coming off AEW Dynasty where he helped the Young Bucks win tag team gold, Jack Perry returned to Dynamite Wednesday to let bygones be bygones in his public conversation with company CEO Tony Khan. The two embraced and celebrated before Perry would gut-punch the boss and the Young Bucks drove the head of the founder against the mat. Tony Khan is now recovering and will run programming remotely from Jacksonville until he’s cleared to travel.
Mega Man
Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler in WWE, has captured the AAA Mega Championship at AAA TripleMania XXXII Sunday. Nemeth, who is also the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, defeated Alberto El Patron for the vacant title.
