The Rock is restoring the feeling of “attitude”

We are less than a week away from what is looking to be one of the biggest events in wrestling history. Wrestlemania XL is shaping up to be one for the books, maybe the greatest Wrestlemania there ever was. One of the biggest reasons is the return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Roman Reigns has ruled over the WWE with an iron fist for over three years now, and fans have been clamoring for The Rock to usurp him as the real Head of The Table. With Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes opting to give The Rock his Wrestlemania opportunity, it seemed all set. Then at a press conference in Las Vegas, that all changed. Now the Bloodline is as strong as ever with the self-proclaimed “Final Boss” joining the fold.

On Wrestlemania Saturday, Roman Reigns and The Rock will face off against Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in a massive tag-team showdown, which has implications for the main event of Sunday, where Reigns and Rhodes will go head-to-head for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

The return of The Rock has brought feelings of a revered yet bygone era. The Attitude Era was a time when The Rock became a megastar, one of the greatest performers we have ever seen in this industry. His aura, his charisma, his in-ring prowess, etc. were things that personified this era, an era that is seen by many as wrestling’s best.

With him bringing back his usual persona, mixed in with an amplified version of what we know as “Hollywood” Rock, he is bringing back some of the “attitude” that wrestling has been lacking. Things such as long, profanity-laced promos on X (formerly Twitter) and on television, being interactive with fans, even making young children cry, and bringing out his old wardrobe are truly a thing of beauty to see.

We are getting reminded of how great “The Great One” really is, yet he’s doing it in a way that he’s proving to be even greater, now that he is playing a more serious and sadistic version of what we are used to.

Speaking for the “millions…and millions” of fans that will surely be tuned into Wrestlemania XL, it will be a delight to see The Rock return to the ring, and the intrigue surrounding it grows every second we get closer to the Granddaddy of Them All.
