Oliver Bearman’s Future at Haas

Oliver Bearman, currently competing for Prema Racing in F2, is strongly being considered for a seat in F1 with Haas for the 2025 season.

The 19-year-old driver is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and is a reserve driver for both the Haas and Ferrari F1 teams. Bearman made quite the impression when he stood in for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix earlier this year after the Spanish driver came down with appendicitis. Bearman secured seventh place and collected six points in the F1 World Championship.

Though currently 13th in F2 standings, Bearman has consistently showed great potential in F1 machinery, first having participated in FP1 for Haas at the Mexican and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix. The British driver also had the opportunity to sample the VF-24 at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix earlier this year, securing 15th on the timesheets.

Haas team principal, Ayao Komatsu, confirmed that Bearman will be participating in a practice session at the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend. When asked about Bearman’s place in F1 Komatsu responded, “Of course we are evaluating him. If he is not (under) consideration, we wouldn’t be running him in FP1.”

The Haas team has not yet confirmed their drivers for the 2025 season with Nico Hulkenberg having signed with Kick Sauber and Kevin Magnussen trying to extend his current contract. Komatsu said of the driver market and Haas’s candidates, “To have somebody experienced, somebody who’s got a really good work ethic, to integrate with the team well and really push the team forward… that’s what we’re looking for, so we’re talking with several different drivers.”
