Washington (PSF)- The Washington Mystics defeated the Chicago Sky this past Sunday by a score of 77-69. Washington was led by Elena Delle Donne who had scored 20 points and by Brittany Sykes who scored 16. This victory was the fourth one for the Mystics out of their last five games. The team has improved to third on the WNBA leaderboard.

Chicago has lost their previous four games and are on the longest losing streak for the franchise since their championship season in 2021. That year they lost seven games in a row.

Sykes played an integral role in Sunday's win for the Mystics. She finished the first quarter without missing a shot, meaning she went 5-5 from the field and 3-3 on free throws. Sykes also finished the game with three steals. These two teams played back in May where the Mystics got a narrow victory over the Sky, they are now 2-0 against them during this season.

There was a bright spot that the Chicago Sky could be hopeful towards and that was the play of Morgan Bertsch. The forward who was drafted by Dallas in 2019 did not make her WNBA debut until this season with Chicago, and this was her first game back since their last game against the Mystics where she suffered an unfortunate ankle injury. Bertsch returned, scoring 16 points and grabbing 7 rebounds, as well as going 4-5 from the 3-point line. Bertsch’s play against the Mystics is something the Sky can be optimistic about going forward.

The Mystics and Sky will face off again this Thursday in Chicago.
