Makhachev Claims Khabib Let Poirier Attempt Guillotine at UFC 242

Dustin Poirier’s guillotine choke attempt at UFC 242 was easily the closest that Khabib Nurmagomedov was to being submitted. It was locked in, and the commentary by Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik expressed how deep it was. However, Nurmagomedov’s cousin, Islam Makhachev claims that this was the plan the whole time.

In an interview done on ESPN’s newest combat sports show, “Good Guy Bad Guy.” with Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier; Makhachev told the pair that Nurmagomedov had planned to allow Poirier to get him in the choke.

“Before the fight, I swear to God Khabib told me, ‘hey catch me in guillotine, I have to feel’.” Makhachev told Cormier and Sonnen. “I will give him my neck and make him tired, and what we did in the locker room before the fight.”

This all came up after Makhachev was asked about his upcoming matchup with Poirier. Although Makhachev believes that Poirier is the most dangerous fighter in the division when it comes to striking, he has no respect for Poirier’s Guillotine.

Although Poirier has not gotten a submission via guillotine in his career, he has attempted it time and time again, so one should not be surprised if he at least attempts one in his matchup against Makhachev. These two will matchup at UFC 302 on June 1st in the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
