El durinho finally gets a crack at masvidal.

By The Mirror

Gilbert Burns has taken on every obstacle the UFC has put in front of him. After the total war with Khamzat Chimaev that lasted all five rounds, Burns was vocal about fighting the most dangerous people on the planet more often. After the fight he told the media that he had an eye out for the infamous, Jorge Masvidal. The rumors brewed for months, but between Masvidal silence and legal troubles, the fight looked like it would never happen.

The UFC wanted to give Burns a fight in Brazil because that is where he was born. They wanted to show appreciation for the battle between himself and Chimaev by having him fight on his original home soil. Due to Masvidal being out because of personal issues, the UFC gave Burns Neil Magny, who holds the record for the most consecutive wins in the welterweight division. This matchup was set up to be a show because most people in the division did not want to fight either man because of the challenges that would come with it. That said, Burns ran through Magny by submitting him in the first-round with dominant Jiu-Jitsu.

After the fight he told the media again that he wants to fight the most dangerous people in the weight division and will someday hold the UFC championship. The UFC announced over the weekend that Burns will fight Masvidal on the co-main event card on April 8th. Many people in the fighting industry feel that Burns is getting screwed because his opponents will not land him a title shot. Burns does not care when he gets another shot at the title. He knows that if he keeps winning, they will not be able to turn him away. All he can do what he has been doing, which is handling these challenges with a smile.
