The year will be 2026. Sixteen cities were chosen to host the FIFA World Cup. The announcement came on Friday and there was so excitement for the city I call home, Houston. The process started in 2019 and the pay off was finally granted.

The Houston Sports Authority is in charge of all of the sports events in Houston. As a volunteer of the Sports authority, Houston has some of the most memorable moments. The Superbowl, NCAA Final Four, SWAC and The NBA All-Star game are just a few of the events Houston has hosted. And now this happens and the Committee, the Mayor Sylvester Turner and County Judge Lina Hildago were over the roof when interviewed after the news broke.

Even though we are a four years from the event, the excitement to get ready and prepare will start ahead of time. The NRG stadium where the Texans play will be the venue used and that place is special. Maybe not so much for Texans but it will be for these games. Houston will host between five to seven games and even though they won’t be hosting a final because NRG isn’t big enough, the games will be electric enough to bring joy and money to the city.

The other cities in the U.S. that were selected for the games were Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Baltimore (Washington DC). Canada is also hosting and the three choices were Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver. Anticipating the volunteer opportunities and the great memories to follow.
