Formula 1 Pre-Season Testing: The Debrief

The Formula 1 2024 season has kicked off with pre-season testing in Bahrain. The testing occurred over a three-day span from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23.

Many teams made quite an impression on the track with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen having set the fastest lap on the first day of testing with a time of 1m31.344s. Ferrari also stood out with Carlos Sainz achieving the fastest lap on the second day of testing with a time of 1m29.921s. Though impressive, he utilized the C4 Pirelli tire which is not going to be available for the race weekend. Additionally, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc set the fastest time on the third and final day of testing with a time of 1m30.322 testing.

Other drivers also exhibited impressive results. Sergio Perez gave Red Bulls fastest lap over the three days of testing with a time of 1m30.679 after having experienced a brake fire. Zhou Guanyu of the Stake F1 team was the third quickest man on the track during the third day of testing setting a time of 1m30.322s.

Haas, though consistently being on the lower half of the grid in terms of times, obtained the most milage having completed 439 laps with both Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg. Williams was on the other end of the spectrum, having only recorded 299 laps with drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant.

Three action-packed days offer insight into the potential championship contenders for the 2024 season. Ferrari and Red Bull statistics stand out on the timesheets, but the team to beat is to be determined.
