Charles' Struggles
Charles LeClerc has been one of the more unlucky drivers in terms of his luck with his car, positioning in certain circumstances, (Qualifying, Sprint Races) but this past weekend in Sao Paulo might have been one of the most unlucky things that has happened to him.
In the formation lap, Charles was experiencing issues with the car, and with that, he crashed out before the race even started.
With the drama during the formation lap, it only makes you think about how unlucky Charles has gotten in his career. Particularly when he started on the front row, Leclerc's mishap in Monaco in 2021, where he secured pole position but then committed an unforced error that forced him to miss the race, was undeniably the most challenging among all his setbacks. After Ferrari's winless 2020 season, Leclerc had regained his top form when Formula 1 returned to Monaco in 2021 following the cancellation the previous year due to Covid-19.
He then went on to post the quickest times in Q1 & Q2, and retained pole position in his home GP before he clipped the wall and broke his suspension. Ferrari then opted to not change his gearbox, which proved to be his fait when he was on the way to the starting grid when his car sputtered and stalled which ended his race before it even started. A brutal blow for the Monoguesce.
After the race, Ferrari released a statement about what happened to Charles, in which his car had a malfunction and forced him to crash and not be able to continue, or even start the race, putting a massive dent into P2 in the Constructors race with Mercedes. Let's hope for some better results for LeClerc as we enter into the final races of the season.
