Cesaro is leaving WWE

As more superstars are leaving World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Cesaro follows suit with his contract expiring today and both sides can’t reach an agreement.

Cesaro, a real-life name of Claudio Castagnoli, decided to part ways with WWE after working under a one-year contract extension. “The Swiss Superman” was reported an offer for another extension with the company, but he turned it down.

This was surprising considering he was with the WWE for a decade (since 2011) and been an individual that was thought of as a “lifer” with the company. Cesaro had single and tag team runs with the WWE and has done well with what he has been given.

During his time with the WWE, Cesaro has many accolades like the United States Championship (one time), Raw Tag Team Championships (five times) with Tyson Kidd (one) and Sheamus (four), Smackdown Tag Team Championships (two times) with Sheamus (one) and Shinsuke Nakamura (one), and won the inaugural Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy in 2014.

Since he won those accomplishments, Cesaro wasn’t doing anything memorable, but got a semi-push in the beginning half of 2021 with a win at WrestleMania 37 versus Seth Rollins and challenging current WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania Backlash. After those moments, Cesaro was back to the mid-card and lost a lot of matches as well. His last match was on Feb. 11, 2022, on an episode of Smackdown with a loss to Baron Corbin before Cesaro’s contract expires.

With Cesaro now a free agent, he got many destinations to choose from like Impact Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), National Wrestling Association (NWA), and All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The 41-year-old has a lot of decisions to make after leaving WWE and anywhere he chooses is going to have an exceptional wrestler in their company.
