Former Red Sox Players Thriving On New Teams This Season
After a disappointing season in 2023, the Boston Red Sox had an eventful offseason hoping to change their fortune for 2024. This included the departures of players like Chris Sale, Alex Verdugo, Adam Duvall, and Justin Turner. Some of these now former Red Sox have found instant success on new teams.
Below are some offseason departures that have been excelling with their new ball clubs.
Alex Verdugo- New York Yankees

Since being dealt to the New York Yankees, Alex Verdugo has seen success in his new home, hitting 8 home runs and collecting 33 RBIs so far. Although only hitting .261, Verdugo has successfully filled out the Yankees outfield alongside former all-stars Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. He looks to help New York get back into World Series contention after they missed the postseason last year.
Verdugo was traded this past offseason to New York in exchange for pitchers Nicholas Judice, Greg Weissert, and Richard Fitts.
Chris Sale- Atlanta Braves

After spending the past few seasons in Boston dealing with injuries, Chris Sale was traded to Atlanta and is establishing himself as an early CY Young candidate. In his 11 starts this season, Sale has an 8-1 record with a 3.06 ERA and 82 strikeouts. With Spencer Strider out for the season, Sale has really stepped up for the Braves’ rotation.
Chris Sale was traded with cash considerations to Atlanta for infielder Vaughn Grissom this past offseason.
James Paxton- Los Angeles Dodgers

James Paxton was another starting pitcher that left Boston this offseason and has found success with World Series favorites, the Los Angeles Dodgers. With acquisitions such as Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Glasnow, James Paxton has became an underrated addition. He currently holds a 5-0 record in 10 starts and has a 3.29 ERA. Look for Paxton to continue being a solid piece in one of the league’s top pitching staffs.
Paxton signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason during free agency.
John Schreiber- Kansas City Royals

After being one of Boston’s best relievers over the past few seasons, John Schreiber has found the same success with the Royals in Kansas City. Schreiber has a 3-1 record with a 2.88 ERA over 25 innings pitched. After a surprising start to the season for Kansas City, Schreiber could prove to be a crucial arm in the bullpen in the Royal’s quest to return to the postseason.
Schreiber was traded to the Kansas City Royal this past offseason in exchange for pitcher David Sandlin.
