Yankees Take Game 2 Against Pirates 6-3

Three of the young Yankees players contributed with runs to help push the team to victory. In the first inning, Austin Wells hit a double to center field scoring DJ Lemahieu, then Estevan Florial hit a single to drive in both Gleyber Torres and Austin Wells making the score 3-0. Later in the eighth inning, Oswaldo Cabrera hit his fifth homerun of the season to right field. The other two runs came off a Giancarlo Stanton solo homerun in the third inning and Aaron Judge scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. All Yankees hitters were able to reach base at least once in the game.
Pitching wise for the Yankees, Luke Weaver started the game. The Yankees claimed Weaver off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, September 12, and he made his first start for the team tonight. Weaver went four innings, giving up three earned runs off of four hits and one homerun, while striking out seven at the same time. In relief of Weaver was Jhony Brito, who pitched three innings of no hit ball while striking out three. After Brito were Ian Hamilton and Clay Holmes who pitched an inning each continuing to end the game.
With the win, the Yankees win the series against the Pirates and look for a sweep in tomorrow’s game. The win also keeps the team’s playoffs hopes alive as they are six games out of the third Wild Card spot. With 13 games left to play and six games left against the Toronto Blue Jays who also happen to be six games ahead of the Yankees, anything is possible. Other than the Blue Jays series both at home and away, the Yankees have the Arizona Diamondbacks at home and the Kansas City Royals in Kansas City as the remaining series left in the season.
