Yankees Take a Blow As Giancarlo Stanton Lands Himself On The IL
The New York Yankees placed power hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list (IL) on Sunday due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. Best case scenario, Stanton would be able to return in four to six weeks.
The injury occurred during the seventh inning of Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. When running out a two-run double, Stanton felt a tweak in his hamstring as he decelerated into second base, signaling to the Yankee dugout to send in a pinch runner.
This is not new to the Yankees or Giancarlo Stanton, as he has been on the IL in all but the 2014, 2017 and 2018 seasons. This is the 33-year-old’s fifth straight season with some type of injury and is prone to injury in his lower body.
Losing Stanton’s power bat is always a big blow to the Yankee lineup. Currently, he is batting .269 with four home runs and 11 RBIs through 13 games, tied with outfielder Franchy Cordero for the most RBIs on the team. Last year, Stanton missed more than a month because of tendinitis in his left Achilles and the Yankees were 11-17 without him.
