White Sox’s Return in Giolito Deal

On July 26th, after being swept in the Cross Town series by the Cubs, the White Sox would trade Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez to the Los Angeles Angels for prospects Edgar Quero and Ky Bush. This is just the 1st of multiple deals that the White Sox are expected to make. Let’s take a deep look into who exactly these two young prospects are.

Both Edgar Quero & Ky Bush were #2 and #3 prospects in the Angels organization, with Quero also being the 65th best prospect in the MLB acording to MLB Pipeline. “A switch-hitter with more power from the left side of the plate, Quero barrels up the ball consistently from both sides. He has an advanced approach with excellent plate discipline, drawing a ton of walks in the early stages of his pro career”. Quero possesses a great offensive skillset that is conducive to succeeding at the Major League level. This era of baseball highly values players who have both excellent plate discipline and batted ball data. As a 19-year-old in 2022, Quero would be named the MVP in the High-A California League. He slashed .313/.435/.530 with 17 HR, 75 RBI with 73 BB - 91 K. So far this year in Double-AA, Quero has a .718 OPS. Both his batting average and slugging have regressed quite a bit but his OBP remains high at .386. He also has an eye popping 55 BB - 53 K.

As for LHP Ky Bush, he possesses a 4-pitch mix that features a fastball, slider, changeup, and curveball. The 6’6 left-hander pitches from a high three-quarters arm slot which gives hitters a tricky time tracking the ball from his hand. Ky’s performance hasn’t been too consistent in 2023, mostly due to a major lat injury in 2022 and groin & oblique injuries during spring training. The White Sox get a boost from Ky as he is now their key left-handed pitching prospect.
