The Chicago White Sox officially announced their decision to decline the $14 million club option on veteran shortstop Tim Anderson for the 2024 season. The White Sox sealed the deal with a $1 million buyout, marking the end of an era for Anderson and the White Sox franchise.

The 2023 season was a challenging one for Anderson. In 123 games, he hit just one home run and posted a batting average of .245. His performance resulted in 25 RBI, 52 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases. The struggles were even more evident in his .582 OPS, which happened to be the worst among MLB shortstops, and a meager .296 slugging percentage, the lowest of any American League batter.

One of the season's low points for Anderson was a notorious brawl involving Anderson and José Ramirez. The brawl resulted in a six-game suspension handed down by MLB, later reduced to five games through a settlement.

This decision to part ways with Tim Anderson could be a sign about what the team plans to do in the organization's future, as the team is poised to undergo a rebuilding phase following a disappointing 61-101 record in the 2023 season.
