What is Going on with the White Sox?

CHICAGO (PSF) —Momentum is pointed to the sky for most Chicago teams, unless they’re owned by Jerry Reinsdorf. The Bulls are at least in the play-in tournament, but the Chicago White Sox are historically horrible this season.

To start off this season, the team has the worst record in the majors, with a 2-14 record. There is no question now who the worst team in not just the American League, but the entirety of the MLB is the White Sox.

This is also the worst start to a season in franchise history for the Southsiders. The last time the White Sox started off a season this bad was in 1968 when the team started off 3-12. They would go on to have a 95-loss season that year.

Among the bad games this year for the White Sox, the team is dead last or near that in many major statistical categories. The team ranks last in both runs and on-base plus slugging (OPS) with eight home runs and a OPS percentage of .568. Their eight home runs are the same amount for Atlanta Braves star designated hitter Marcell Ozuna. Five of their games, the team has been shut out.

The team is also last in runs scored per game and 28th in runs allowed per game. This team is historically bad.

To say fan reactions are heated is an understatement. There have been sightings of fans chanting “Sell the team” during games, or fans carrying banners saying the same thing.

If this continues, the White Sox also won’t be able to get their choice of the 10 best upcoming prospects in the upcoming draft. Due to the CBA, the White Sox cannot receive a lottery pick this year since they were given one last year. This is also because the White Sox are one of many teams that receive revenue-sharing payouts, mostly big market teams.

So, being this bad can’t even give the White Sox a light at the end of the tunnel. The highest they could pick in this draft is 11th overall.

Things need to turn around for this team and soon. Chicago is seeing a flux of stars come to their teams.

The Chicago Bears will likely take Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Chicago Blackhawks took centre Connor Bedard in the previous NHL Draft and will have another chance for another star in the next one. The Chicago Sky just took two college superstars in Louisiana State forward Angel Reese and South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso. The Chicago Cubs are on the upswing.

If this keeps up, the Chicago White Sox could be left behind and become what the Philadelphia 76ers used to be, historically bad with apathetic fans.
