Trevor Story Beginning Rehab Assignment

The return of Trevor Story is now in the works for the Boston Red Sox. Elbow surgery has sidelined Story for the duration of Boston’s season so far. With all five teams in the AL East battling for playoff spots, Story’s return is coming just in time. He had 16 home runs and 66 runs batted in last season in 94 games. Boston hopes he can come back from this injury and still be one of the main contributors offensively for the second half of this season and for years to come. The star shortstop is currently in the second year of his six year deal with the Red Sox.

Trevor Story begins his rehab assignment on Friday, 6/21. He will be playing shortstop in Double-A for the Portland Sea Dogs.

Boston is looking to shift Story back to shortstop, the position he played during his time with the Colorado Rockies. Story spent last year playing second base for the Red Sox as Xander Bogaerts remained at shortstop. With the departure of Bogaerts this offseason, Story will look to return to his natural position at short. At shortstop, Trevor Story has a career fielding percentage of .979.

With the return of a key player for Boston now in sight, the Red Sox look to make a playoff push along with every team in the AL East. Getting Story back for the second half of the season could be just what Boston needed to make it back to the postseason after falling short last year.
