The Houston Astros Win The 2022 World Series

After 212 consecutive days of baseball, another season is in the books. The Houston Astros rode off into the sunset for the last game of the 2022 season as champions, beating the Phillies in six games. The Astros continue their dominance with six consecutive seasons making an appearance in the World Series or the ALCS. Houston captured their second title in franchise history, and the first since the Astros scandal rocked the baseball world in late 2019.

Yordan Alvarez hit the go-ahead home run to give the Astros the lead in the sixth inning, possibly the biggest home run in franchise history from the Astros slugger who has been producing all season. The mammoth 450-foot homer to center field secured the Commissioner’s Trophy back to Houston.

Jeremy Peña was named World Series MVP, ending his remarkable rookie campaign. The pressure as Carlos Correa’s successor didn’t seem to bother Peña, who mustered up one of the greatest rookie performances in postseason history. Peña becomes the first rookie to win a Gold Glove, ALCS MVP, and World Series MVP in the same season. The Houston shortstop also has the most total bases for a rookie shortstop in postseason history. The magical postseason run for Peña generated feats baseball has never seen before.

Throughout the season, the Astros proved they were the most complete team in baseball. Houston checks all the boxes with a dangerous lineup, formidable rotation, and a spectacular bullpen. According to ESPN, the Astros bullpen in the playoffs were lights out, having the first bullpen to throw at least forty innings in a single postseason and post a sub-1.00 ERA.

With core players returning to Houston, the Astros will definitely continue their dominance for years to come.
