Monday 4/18/2022

The San Diego Padres started off the series with a win over the Cincinnati Reds. Notable highlights from the San Diego Padres is Manny Machado hitting a two run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Followed by Ha-seong kim RBI single to bring Jurkison Profar home in the fourth inning. Finally a sac-fly from Luke Voit to bring home Manny Machado in the bottom of the seventh inning. 



Sean Meanua with his first start as a Padre at Petco Park was a success. Despite giving up a home run in the first inning to former Padre Tommy Pham. Manaea went 6 innings pitched, with six strikeouts during a his outing at home. The ball was passed to Steven Wilson followed by Pierce Johnson and finally Taylor Rogers with a shutout for the final three innings. The final score from Monday’s 4/18/2022. The final score is the Reds 1 and the Padres 4. The Cincinnati Reds record is now 2-9 and the San Diego Padres record is 7-5. 



Tuesday 4/19/2022

Deja Vu, in the first inning of the game. The Reds strike where Tommy Pham hits a homerun off Joe Musgrove. Followed by the bottom of the first inning, where Austin Nola takes a signal followed by Manny Machado two run home run. Eric Hosmer drives in a run to bring home Jurkison Profar.  By the end of the first inning, Reds 1, Padres 3.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Wil Myers doubled, bringing home Eric Hosmer. José Azócar also hits a double as well, bringing home Wil Myers, with the Padres having a 5-1 lead. 




Top of the sixth inning saw Joe Musgrove give up another run by Kyle Farmer. Farmer doubles. Making the game 5-2 Padres. Joe Musgrove was able to complete the sixth inning. Joe Musgrove was also able to come out in the seventh inning. Joe Musgrove's final line was six and ⅓’s innings pitched, four hits, six struck outs and two earned runs. The final score of this game was 2-6 Padres.




Wednesday 4/20/2022

In hopes of San Diego looking for their first sweep of this young series. The ball was handed to rookie pitcher MacKenzie Gore. A very impressive debut for Gore from his last outing against the Atlanta Braves. MacKenzie Gore made it through 5 shutout innings with seven strikeouts and only giving up four hits. 





The spark of this game was when the left fielder Jurickson Profar made a huge throw to home getting the final out in the top of the fourth inning. It didn’t stop Profar dominance of this game, he then followed up with a two run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. 





The offense continues to click. Trent Grisham gets out of a slump by hitting a double, scoring in Jorge Alfaro. In the bottom of the sixth inning. Ha-seong Kim hits a solo shot home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Bottom of the eighth inning, Jorge Alfaro hits a sac fly, scoring in Jack Cronenworth, followed by the rising star of C.J Abrams hitting a double, scoring in Profar. Dinelson Lamet closes the door on the Cincinnati Reds with the Padres finishing off their first sweep of the 2022 season. 





Highlight of the series.

The highlight of the series was in game two between Luke Voit and Tyler Stephenson colliding at home plate. Luke Voit was able to finish off the game, while catcher Tyler Stephenson walked away with a concussion. Putting him in the 10 day IL. The Cincinnati Reds clubhouse wasn’t too happy with Voit’s slide to home plate. Former Padres player Tommy Pham stated “That play was dirty.” from Bally Sports Cincinnati. Kyle Farmer stated “I’m not too happy about the slide. That is baseball.” From the other side of the clubhouse, Luke Voit stated “"You don't expect it, and sometimes you get blindsided by it," Voit said, before turning his thoughts to his own collision with Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson on Tuesday night. "I've seen both sides of it. Hopefully, Tyler's all right. I think he is. It's part of the game. Obviously, there wasn't any intent to try to take him out or get him hurt." via MLB.com.

The next time the San Diego Padres face the Cincinnati Reds is on April 26th-28th. The next series of the San Diego Padres is against the division rival first place Los Angeles Dodgers. With their final home stand of April.
