Red Sox SIgn Matt Strahm
The Red Sox have signed LHP Matt Strahm to a one year deal, pending a physical. According to Jon Heyman of MLB network the deal is worth 3 million.
Strahm has been a member of the San Diego Padres for the last four seasons after spending his first two seasons with the Royals. His overall body of work in the big leagues has been solid, but he has had injury issues as of late. He only pitched 6 ⅓ innings in the big leagues last year after missing most of the year coming off of knee surgery. His knee flared up again after returning, and he went back to the IL.
Strahm has served as both a starter as well as a reliever in his career, but has been mainly a relief pitcher in recent years. His career E.R.A. is 3.81 and he is known to be tough on lefties. With the three batter minimum rule there has been a bit less specialization with substitutions coming out of the bullpen, but expect Alex Cora to have Strahm face as many left handers as possible.
This deal isn’t a flier by any means. 3 mil isn’t chump change, and I fully expect Strahm to make the team and have an impact. The health of his knee is something to keep an eye on moving forward.
