Nine innings of baseball was not enough to decide a winner in the Red Sox’s past few games. Boston has gone to extra innings in three consecutive games spanning from the June 11th to the 13th.

The first of these three games came in Yankee Stadium as Boston squared off against their New York rival. The Yankees took an early 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning that would hold up until the top of the eighth. It was Jarren Duran batting in Enrique Hernandez to tie the game at 2-2. The game would stay this way until the top of the 10th when Hernandez singled, driving in Adam Duvall. Chris Martin would go on to shut the Yankees down in the bottom of the 10th, giving Boston the win and the series win.

The second of three consecutive extra inning games took place at Fenway Park in the series opener against the Colorado Rockies. This back-and-forth battle saw the Rockies score first in the fourth inning, leading 1-0. Justin Turner and the Red Sox came back to tie it at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth. The bottom of the seventh saw the Red Sox jump ahead, courtesy of Christian Arroyo’s solo shot. Unfortunately for Boston, this lead only lasted half an inning as Colorado quickly responded and tied it at 2-2. The deadlock wasn’t broken until the top of the 10th when the Rockies would pile on two runs, making it 4-2. Boston could only plate one run in the bottom of the 10th, falling to the Rockies 4-3.

The third game of this stretch came on Tuesday, June 13th as Boston faced Colorado for the second meeting of their three game series. Colorado started off strong, taking a commanding 4-0 lead. Boston’s star third baseman, Rafael Devers, would hit a two run shot to the Pesky Pole, cutting the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth. A run in each the sixth and seventh innings for Boston allowed for the game to reach extra innings once again. These extended games seemed to be getting to the Red Sox as they allowed three runs in the top of the 10th. Devers would hit another two run homerun in the bottom of the 10th but it wouldn’t be enough. The Red Sox fell 7-6 to the Rockies after 10.
